Description
Hazmat 0: Hazardous Materials Transportation – Introduction
Course Overview
The transportation of hazardous materials is regulated to protect people, property, and the environment. This introductory course provides a foundation for understanding the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) under 49 CFR Parts 107 and 171–185, which govern how hazmat is packaged, labeled, documented, and transported across all modes of transportation.
Adapted from official U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) materials, this module helps hazmat employees recognize the purpose, structure, and scope of the HMR. It explains training requirements, introduces the DOT hazard classification system, and establishes the knowledge base required before progressing to more advanced hazmat topics.
This course is available in English and Spanish and is designed for all employees performing functions regulated under the HMR. Completion of this module is a prerequisite for subsequent courses in the Hazmat Transportation series.
